Origin of Hebron
Founded in 1885, the seeds for Hebron were sown like most Dakota Territory towns with the Northern Pacific Railroad, a store and a church. The first settlers were German immigrants from Chicago, a group under the auspices of the colonization and encouragement of the Evangelical Synod of North America. The name, Hebron, was a reference to the Biblical vale of Hebron in Palestine and in translation means “fellowship.”
